Bernhardine Mueller
Bernhardine Mueller is a Sydney-based printmaker, painter and teacher who studied painting at Meadowbank TAFE College and printmaking at the National Art School, Sydney where she gained her Diploma of Fine Art. She has been a teacher of printmaking for over a decade, conducting classes at a number of Art Centres, and by invitation. She also holds workshops and lectures to promote printmaking and is an active member of the Sydney Printmakers, Open Bite Printmakers and the Australia Society of Miniature Art.
Her achievements include a major solo exhibition and numerous group and invitation exhibitions in Australia overseas. Her list of prizes and awards includes over 100 Firsts in printmaking, painting and drawing. Her work is in numerous public, private and corporate collections in Australia, Japan, USA, Canada and Europe.
Finding inspiration both in the power of imagination and in the actual world in which we live, Bernhardine's work speaks to viewers in a direct, personal way. It draws them beyond the surface, as her images often have a surreal touch. Her art deals mainly with emotions and human relationships and she brings to it a passion for life and a keen awareness of the Old Masters. She finds that the etching technique and the use of multi-plates, aquatints and mixed media prints are all just right for her painterly style.
